How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the celebrated children's classic by Dr Seuss, was written in 1957 so this year celebrates its 50th anniversary as one of the most popular children's Christmas books of all time.
The Gaylord Opryland Nashville Hotel has chosen the Grinch Christmas story for its own annual Christmas tradition – a spectacular ice sculpture, called ICE! The Opryland's ICE! At Christmas is an ice sculpture like you've never seen before. Each year some 35 ice sculpture craftsmen come to Nashville from Harbin in China, and work long hours to create an ice sculpture masterpiece.
The ice that is turned into the Opryland Nashville's ICE! Spectacular weighs 1.5 million pounds, and some of the individual creations will weigh over two tons when finished. The 35 Chinese artisans work shifts of 12 hours at a time, for a whole month, to turn the theatre at the Nashville Opryland into Grinch's icy lair.
